Lessons Learned

September 24, 2009 at 4:45 pm (Website Updates)

Yesterday, I learned a very interesting life lesson- pot roast may be used as a weapon. No seriously….ouch. While I won’t tell you how or why I learned that lesson, I can help you with other lessons which need to be learned.

Due to the popularity of my Morrowind Mod Installation Tutorial, I’ve uploaded an Oblivion Mod Installation Tutorial. Frequently asked questions are included, as per usual. It touches base on the parts of a mod, manual installation, my 7zip shortcuts (really can’t tell when the last time I installed a mod any other way), OMODs, and gives some helpful links for archive invalidation, etc. I know, there’s a million other tutorials out there for mod installation…but I’m constantly getting emails and private messages about how to install Shadowcrest Vineyard. Many times, I toss other people’s tuts to those people, but a few times I’ve received answers such as “there is too much information, I don’t know where to start” or “that tutorial is too complicated.”

Hopefully, I’ve made it to the point and clear. Hope it helps those in need, and if you think of anything else that needs added, well…see that contact button on the site? It won’t bite you….

P.S. For only having this blog up a few days, it’s gotten a fair amount of hits (and I’ve even gotten a few messages about my sneaky blog link posting on my webbie.) All these views and no love? Don’t be afraid to stop by and say hi.

Just call Miss Fix It

September 23, 2009 at 2:03 am (Clothing and Armor, Mod Releases)

With fall here, and through discussions with a friend I’ve realized how long my to-do list really is…with life and computer projects.  I’ve also realized that I spend entirely too much time focusing on trying to fix the small things…but with a few projects requiring major fixes I decided to save what’s left of my hair by taking a break and moving on to something that I thought just needed a bit of love.

This was an outfit I mixed together ages ago, the first time I ever shared a screenshot I received messages for days asking for it.  Why I never really put 100% into fixing it sooner I’ll never know.  Assuming it’s a small job, I loaded it up in blender and fixed a few issues I knew it had.

Wow, I wish I had tested it better.  I discovered massive amounts of clipping.  Took me the better part of a day to fix all of it up, but I still had clipping with the boots in the back of the leg.  I tried everything.  I was about ready to throw it back in the WIP folder when I noticed the original boots had it too and no one seemed to mind much.  I told myself I can drive myself insane trying to fix it or release it and wash my hands of it.  So here it is…Westwind Rogue for HGEC.

In other Miss Fix It news, the other day I got my webpage all “fixed up” after a hacker had left malicious codes in the 404 and 403 pages at Elric.com.  Since I had streamlined my website, it took days of coding and exploration just to finally figure out why….though one whole day would have been shaved off the experience if the “most trusted” html scanner hadn’t been changing the url in my index page.  I just couldn’t understand why it was picking up the mal code.  *facepalm*  Just to let you know, Elric’s on vacation so if you stop by Elric’s site run web protection and if you encounter a 404 page (page not found) or 403 page (page forbidden) you might want to run a scan.  We’ll get that taken care of sooner or later.

Hackers suck at life.

Don’t tell Mom I’m blogging

September 21, 2009 at 2:21 am (Mod WIPS)

I guess at some point it was inevitable, I had to join the blogging world.  I have to be honest, in the past most of the blogs I’d stumble across on the internet consisted of over the top political talk or what shoes to wear with which more-than-a-brand-new-car-purse.  Don’t worry, you won’t see that from me.  I mainly started this to keep a written record of where my crazy bloated brain goes when it’s working on things.  Starting a forum is too much work as I’ve learned in the past, and I usually only start forum topics for WIPs when I need help or some serious input.

You’re welcome to stay.  Really, I wont bite you…hard.  Just a little om nom….

So I guess I should probably throw in some stuff about me too, since the second the fam gets wind of a blog they’ll be wanting updates galore.  *sigh*  This is the part I suck at.  Yes, I’m the type of person who applies for jobs and really dreads the “so tell me about yourself part.”  I either rampantly overshare or say something stupid.  Let’s do both this time around!  I’m a 26 year old woman living in North Idaho….almost 27…do not want to think about that.  Life is usually pretty good, I’ve got great family who I’ve recently discovered really keep me going.  My fiance is fantastic-ish (can be a pain sometimes but I love him).   Normally, there’s not much big news in my life.  I tend to like the low key end of things.  Things like taking a nice drive on a sunny day, modding, and all that jazz.

Since I know I have to discuss in case the family finds my new e-sanctuary (nah I loves ya…) Well, the last few months have been interesting.  Back in May, I came down with a MRSA infection.  Due to it being misdiagnosed I did countless rounds with insufficient antibiotics.  Those antibiotics literally tried to make my head explode.  I came down with a relatively rare disorder called pseudotumor cerebri.  Translated, it means fake tumor.  My body thinks it has a tumor on the optic nerve, which has caused some loss of eyesight and my head to fill up like a water balloon with my own spinal fluid.   Really freaking awesome eh?

Anywho, since I started this to keep track of projects…let’s do that huh?  Recently I’ve been fighting a loosing battle with revamping Oblivion’s Spriggans and getting the lighting on an outfit to behave itself.  It seems I’m destined to fight with obnoxious backwards glowy things.
